I've been playing Floris Workshop for about a week now and everything was fine until it started crashing unexpectedly. I accidentally ran FW without Warband Script Extender and ran it with the Steam launcher instead. I realized this when i started getting Opcode errors. The crashing did stop, but I noticed when I tried to play the game in WSE, that the save file had the tag "Incomp. File Ver." which I guess stands for incompatible save. I don't understand why the save would be incompatible, both versions of FW and Native are 1.154, and WSE is 1.153+. Is there a possible fix to retrieve the save game? Thanks in advance.

The key is that the workshop is not actually 1.154 compatible. It is 1.153 as this is the last supported version of WSE. The creator of WSE modified it so that an older copy of the game (1.153) is loaded instead when you start with the launcher. I'm guessing you started it, played a bit and saved (using 1.154) then tried to return to the workshop's WSE version.
I'm not sure if that can be salvaged off hand, but I'll do some digging. I can't see any reason why the file should be bad, but generally warband won't let you go backwards in versions. Did you have an older save that you didn't save over using 1.154?

No I only had my one save due to the Realistic saving policy I chose. I should have made backups.

I did do some searching about for a utility or a fix but so far I've had no luck. I've also seen that WSE had been discontinued so I can't really wait for a patch fix.

I'm currently setting up the same conditions you created to see if some of the solutions I've seen posted might help. I'm not sure what exactly causes the incompatibility between 1.153 & 1.154 as there really wasn't any non-Napoleonic Wars changes.

The fixes I've seen do not appear to be working at all. Looks like the only way to recover what you can will be to:
That will let your character itself be saved, but all campaign progress is lost unfortunately. Looking at a binary comparison of a file I took from 1.153 and saved on 1.154 (without doing -anything- new) there is quite a bit of difference in the hex digits between the files.
- Load the game with steam so that the save game loads (I couldn't even get it to load at all).
- Go into your character screen (for assigning skills) and click the "Statistics" button.
- Click the "Export Character" button.
- Create a new game in the workshop using the WSE launcher so it is the right version.
- Make sure your new character is the same name as what your old one was.
- Go into that character's screen -> statistics and now "import character".
