reopen project that is hidden in navigator
Reported by user:
And a related issue is that there is no way to re-open a closed project if I choose to not show close project on navigator pane. I guess this is because there is no project metadata file existing for an erlang project (yes ?). So can you guys add a menu item to open a project ?

I'm not sure if this is something we want to do. It means that we duplicate Eclipse functionality and add clutter to the menus. The problem is not for this particular request, but there are many others that are just as reasonable.
There is a workaround: show the closed projects in the navigator...
We will think about it, but unless you have a stronger argument, it will be low priority.

I understand this may be a low priority issue to you although I really believe this is a missing feature from eclipse. All other IDEs like netbean , visual studio have "open project" feature.
So it is possible we can use makefile as some sort project file (in the future) ?

Maybe I don't understand what you mean.
If you have a project that was open and you close it, then you can reopen it, no meta-data is deleted. If you choose to show closed projects in the navigator pane, then the context menu has a "open project" line.
The makefile can be useful when creating the project in the first place, but that is a different problem. That is an "import project". I don't think we can parse generic Makefiles, it is very difficult (macros and all that crazy stuff), but we are considering to use an extension to the OTP .app files, to allow describing the directory layout and the dependencies.

I know I may be naive. I do not mean to parse generic makefile (this is too crazy). I was thinking that we build the makefile ourselves along the way we create a project (or import a project). And in our own mikefile, it just needs some simple rules, like where src is, where ebin(and include/doc) is and maybe that is all we need to re-open a project.

Like I said, if the project was open and closed, all information is still there -- unless it was deleted (the .project file and the .settings directory). Nothing more is required.
The simpler makefile you mention is then basically the same thing as .settings/org.erlide.core.prefs where these settings are saved today, just in another format.
