Permissions cleared when adding category

This happens with SmartSection 2.14 ever since I upgraded to Xoops 2.3.x
(now at 2.3.3 but happened in earlier versions too):
When adding the first category, no problems. Adding articles, still ok.
Now, add another category, and presto!* ALL* categories are unreadable by
Debug shows no warnings or errors when adding the category. However, when
the category-edit page itself is displayed, I get:
Warning: Class 'XoopsTree' is deprecated, check 'XoopsObjectTree' in
tree.php in file /class/xoopstree.php line 45
But this only happens on displaying the edit-page so I doubt that has
anything to do with it.
System:
Xoops 2.3.3 with Protector 3.22
SmartSection 2.14 final
SmartObject 1.0.1
PHP 5.2.9.2
MySQL 5.0.77-1
Linux 2.6.23, Fedora Core 7
