Test linux installation using XAMPP
Use a virtual machine to perform an installation of SwissCenter using the XAMPP software. If this works, then it will make it very easy for people on linux to install and configure swisscenter.

So far, the installation works fine... except that the CLI version of PHP is not in the path (and if you create a symbolic link then all sorts of things fail. probably due to the php.ini not being picked up correctly).
Download XAMPP and then execute the following commands as root*:
rm -r /opt/lampp/htdocs/*
unzip swisscenter.zip -d /opt/lampp/htdocs
chown -R nobody:nogroup /opt/lampp/htdocs
/opt/lampp/lampp php4
Now go to !http://localhost/config
Download XAMPP and then execute the following commands as root*:
- unpack/install xampp
rm -r /opt/lampp/htdocs/*
- download and install swisscenter
unzip swisscenter.zip -d /opt/lampp/htdocs
chown -R nobody:nogroup /opt/lampp/htdocs
- Start XAMPP and switch to PHP4
/opt/lampp/lampp php4
Now go to !http://localhost/config

Installation instructions (using XAMPP) have been added to the SwissCenter documentation.
NOTE: XAMPP will not function correctly in version 1.19.2 as no CLI version of PHP is present. With SwissCenter 1.20 (when it is released), the requirement to run a command line version of PHP has been dropped because we now use wget to run PHP scripts via the web browser (see* 43).
