Scala Eclipse plugin is incompatible with Spring IDE plugin
Migrated from http://lampsvn.epfl.ch/trac/scala/ticket/2745
Reporter Alex.Savitsky
Adding Spring IDE plugin ( http://dist.springframework.org/release/IDE) to an environment with Scala plugin running, making Scala completely unusable. For some reason, after adding Spring IDE plugin, the JDT Weaving setting has switched to "disabled", and, even though there's an "enable" button, it doesn't enable the weaving - making all Scala files to be interpreted as Java code.
Eclipse version: 3.5.1
Build id: M20090917-0800
Scala plugin: 2.7.7.final
Eclipse IDE plugin: 2.2.8.200911091054-RELEASE

Can you try doing the setup the other way around: ie. start with Spring, then install the Scala IDE, but excluding the JDT Weaving component (the one that ships with the Spring IDE should be used instead).

Made it even worse. All Scala files are still being interpreted as Java, and now I get exceptions like "lampion.eclipse.Editor$$anon$1 cannot be cast to org.eclipse.jdt.internal.ui.javaeditor.CompilationUnitEditor$AdaptedSourceViewer" whenever I attempt to open a Scala file.

Correction: not every time, but I did get a number of those when I was pasting Scala source from a web page into my file...

Just checking whether you need any additional info about this problem from me, as I'm not going to have access to a computer for the next week...

No idea what yokos is, but in vanilla eclipse, Scala plugin still doesn't work with Spring IDE. Further to that, current nightly build of Scala plugin has a faulty MD5 hash, and it doesn't even install properly.

Same thing happened to me.
I had Spring IDE already installed when I started installing the Scala plugin (excluding the JDT Weaving component).
The behaviour is as in the description.

Could you please check the versions of the plugins you're using? Also, what exactly is included in your Spring IDE installation?

There are still problems when installing the Scala Eclipse Plugin 2.0 beta with SpringSource Tool Suite (STS) 2.6.1.SR1. It's still failing because the Scala plugin requires an older version of JDT weaving. Are there any plans to address this?
