Just a small personal project I have been working on that I thought I would share.
I reworked and added the flags of Rohan and Gondor to std_banners_d.dds

@ruralvirginian - Are you using the native banners or the better banners mod as a basis for these updates? We eventually will be moving the mod over to using the better banners pack. The only reason that this was not done as part of v0.15 is because of the added work of matching banner colors to their "back colors" for heraldic armor. That's a rather dull and slow process playing around with RGB sliders to get the right in-game color code and then applying it to the correct banner's slot. These codes are stored in-game for each banner so that the correct "main color" is used for the backside of any heraldic armor. If you want to look at adding these into the main mod I'd suggest looking at that mod's groups and replace the banners you dislike.
So far all of the banners you've made are looking good! For feedback beyond that I would say that the really bright red used in a couple of those banners two images back should probably be toned down. The dragon especially might be more appropriate with a slightly darker red and dimmer gold. My understanding is that overly bright colors don't end up looking well in game, but you'd have to be the judge of that.

Ah, this might explain something RV and I were discussing yesterday. For my new and improved banner that he very kindly provided, in-game I now have green heraldic backgrounds with the blue apparent only around the crest itself. Very off-putting.
When I did my own banner this didn't happen though and I didn't have to futz around with back colours. I think perhaps because I chose one that already had a blue background though and I just cut out the centre for my emblem.
Cheers.

Correct. You picked one that already had that background. This is a fairly time consuming process to match the in-game color (as it doesn't quite match html rgb values) to banner colors. You can fix this in your game by doing the following...
Camp -> Take an Action -> Modify Banner Background Colors -> use the next/prev banner buttons to find your banner.
Then play with the RGB sliders on the right to find the color that works for you and click "set background". The banner & the square of color to the side of it generally won't match in the presentation exactly to get the right match in game. Typically the banner is a bit darker of the two. Once you set the new background color that change is persistent throughout your save game.

Thanks, Windy. Yes I hadn't used the tool as I hadn't needed it yet but I shall give it a go.

Using Photoshop I was able to get the RGB number for one of the blue's in my emblem and now have it set to 33, 42, 108 which looks much better. :)
Going through the banners did make me notice that some of them are showing the right edge of the banner next to them (including mine). Any idea how that happens, Windy?
Cheers.

Right edge of the banner? Can you take a capture and display it so Ican see what you're talking about Michlo?

Will do as soon as I get my computer back up and running. I may be formatting and re-installing.
If you're not seeing it when you look at the banners, though, perhaps it is just mine? I saw it on at least the first two pages of banners as I went through them but it also shows on my banner, which isn't on the first two pages. When I saw it on mine in-game I initially thought it was some sort of flag pole. heh.

It might be a misalignment using a possible mixture of Better Banners with Native. They are not compatible. Better Banners uses a standard 132x340.
Also - apologize for having been quiet for a few days - have been engrossed in the banner project. I have 4 more to go to complete a sheet - already have them sketched out just not completed and tested. I will be "out of pocket" Sat through Monday as I pick my children from the former wife for the summer holiday.
Michlo - I answered your e-mails but they all bounced back to me. I'll try again later today.
Here are the banners I have created to date (apologies to LOTR, Wheel of Time, and Game of Thrones for inspiration.)

Well, Silverstag is going to become a unique Mod (as they all are) but I thought we could add a new sheet with every version or so to give the players something else to be eager about.

Thanks, RV. Yes perhaps that was it. I've never looked at Better Banners. And sorry about the e-mail, I didn't find out until yesterafternoon that there was an issue but it has been resolved by Network Solutions now. :)
The latest are looking excellent, of course. I meant to ask, was the Red Hand inspired by Oblivion?
Have fun with the kids!
Cheers.

No, The Band of the Red Hand from the Wheel of Time series. It is also associated with Clan O'Neal (different varient) from Ulster

Ah, I don't think I've read that series. I'll look it up.
BTW, we currently have three banners duplicated, the wolf heads in silver leaf circles. I think it is just those three at the moment.
Oh and I've moved the emblem down a little in my banner, so you don't have to bother. I've attached the file.
I've also noticed that files B & C are both empty / transparent to me. This is also the case for my native files. Is that supposed to be or has something happened to them?

OK - here we are. All 21. I have enough material still on hand to probably create another 21...but let's start with these.

I hadn't uploaded mine yet as I was still tinkering with it and was interrupted. I had put it in G so will have to finish it and then see where you put it and upload for you. :)
Cheers.

OK - here's the scoop. I have made titles this sheet as "std_banners_d.dds" (see above for file. I am using Better Banners (see above if you do not already have.) After installing Better Banners go into Textures and make a back up of std_banners_d. Then copy the_silverstag_ version into the file. Now play. Please try out the banners and give feedback please.

I'll go ahead and finish mine in G then. :)

Michlo, you can rename the banners sheet to any letter a-g and it will replace the corresponding sheet in Textures. I simply chose 'd' as it had the banners I least liked (though all the Better Banners are good.) There is a way to add more banner sheets other than the initial a-g I just haven't fully figured it out. Caba 'drin knows how to do it so perhaps we can ask Windy to find out. Then we can simply add more sheets rather than substituting our banners. I suggest this because they are going to be players who have personal favorites and I would hate to be the person who pulls their favorite for my favorite :)

Good point. I had wondered the same thing, whether we could add more.
Well here is Clan Walker banner I finally finished toying with (after having to format and re-install my computer today). :)

I can take a look into it. I know all of you want to move to the better banners system and the only thing preventing that is needing the fix the banner backs for heraldic armor. The method for obtaining these color values is available in game to anyone to find so I propose this. If folks want to help match banner #'s to color #'s then I will happily update them in the code and update the banners.

I don't mind doing that but I'll need the files that RV has already worked on first.

Michlo - all my files are listed above int he better banners.zip. Windy - are you talking about the decimal color number?
on 2013-06-10 12:51 *
By Windyplains
@ruralvirginian - Yes the decimal color code. Normally they're used as a six digit hex number, but the one in that presentation gives a decimal one and that's okay for use as well.

@Windyplains
I have created an Excel spreadsheet for you with the hexadecimal conversions for the banners backs. I have also included the code for the kingdom banners used in the Floris pack as they were very nice banners. Plus they give you some kingdom banners that can be used when you update the mod for the new factions. (see above for both)

These all look really good. There are many I would love to use for my character or see the other lords carrying.
Some seem better suited to the Swadians/Rhodoks while others seem better for Khergerits, etc.
Just curious, when the game decides which lords get which banners are there certain ones that are more likely to go to certain cultures?

Yes - it seems that Swadians get those from banners_a, I'm not certain of who gets what after that except that I know the Khergits draw from banners_d. In Floris there are lines of code that set up companion flags (when they become lordlings) and actual assigned flags for the factions. Perhaps we can 'borrow' the coding to bring all of that over. Depends on what Windy would like to do.

And, knowing the next question, yes I could add another 7 banners to the Kingdom Banners and simply use these as additional player banners (becoming banners_i.dds.)
(As a note I happen to find the Grekk helmet and the ship banners to be intriguing to me.)
