Load From File: GPX from Garmin 62s
Garmin 62s
DNR GPS Ver 6.0.0.4
Windows 7
Steps..
Connect Garmin 62s via USB
Launch DNR GPS
File > Load From > File
Browse to E:\Garmin\GPX and select the GPX file which is a track
The records load into the table, but there are no numbers for each record (on the left side)
File > Save To > File > ESRI shapefile
It saves the file as a point shapefile
In the older version 5.04 this is how it used to behave..
Connect Garmin 62s via USB
Launch DNR Garmin
File > Load From > File
A dialog would come up and ask if this was a Point, Line, or Polygon. I selected Polygon because it is a track. It then loaded the records into the table.
File > Save To > File > ESRI shapefile
It saves the file as a polygon
Would like it to work as it did in the older version where it prompts the user to define what type of geometry it is.

This is a bug that will be resolved in the next Beta release.

DNRGPS 6.0.0. 5 Build Date 02/08/12 9:59:00 AM
Connected Garmin 78s
Launched DNRGPS
File > Load From > File
Browse to E:\Garmin\GPX and select the GPX file which is a track
DNRGPS application switches focus to the Waypoint tab with (46) points
It looks like it is downloading the points for that track as well. Question...Is this by design? Why does it default to Waypoints tab after selecting a NON Waypoint Track gpx file?
I then Switch the focus to the Track Tab by selecting the Track Tab
A cell is highlighted and I trying to unhighlight it but I can either select an entire row or all the records. There is no way for me to unselect and row or column so when I do the following..
File > Save To > ESRI Shapefile
It then prompts me to define the Geometry
I select Polygon > OK
I then go and view the file and it is only writing one record
So I went into the Table under Track and selected all the records and did a
File > Save To > ESRI Shapefile
Select Polygon > OK
It still is only writing one record
So the Dialog box for the type of geometry is poping up when on the Track tab but not saving correctly.

Having a single cell selected means 0 rows are selected. Look in the lower right corner of the form to see the number of records selected.
As for writing to a polygon shapefile, a new thing with this version is that it can truly capture the geometry behind a track. In the past, a polygon was defined just by the new_seg field. new_seg = true means the start of a new track (a new shape AND a new feature). Now, new_seg=true still means the start of a new shape but it may be nested into a single feature with other shapes. The new_trk field identifies new features. New_trk=true means the start of a new feature. I think you've downloaded a single track with many shapes within it. Your resulting shapefile will have one record in the attribute table but multiple polygons. As a test, load that shapefile back into DNRGPS. Did it load all your original records?
I see this as being a sticking point for folks so I may look into giving users the option to save to:
Point
Line
Line (multi-part)
Polygon
Polygon (multi-part)

I think the original question was answered. If not, we can readdress that.
I'm marking this as an enhancement to add options for non-multi-part shape types when saving to a file
