DNRGPS 6.0.0.11 GPSmap76CSx download PointZ LineZ Geometry Type shapefiles uneditable Arcview 3.x
I have been using DNRGPS 6.0.0.11 to download waypoints and tracks from a Garmin GPSmap76CSx as ESRI shapefiles, and recently discovered that these files cannot be edited by either the freeware GIS Accuglobe software or Arcview 3.2. When using the former, I get a message that "only 2 dimensional point, line, and polygon date editing are supported", and when I call up layer properties it shows the "geometry type" at "pointZ" or "lineZ". I checked older shapefiles that I downloaded with DNR Garmin software, their Geometry Types are shown simply as "point" or "line", and they are editable, so I assume the un-editableness of the files downloaded with DNRGPS has something to do with this "pointZ"/"lineZ" geometry type, which is either set up as a default in DNRGPS or maybe in my Garmin GPS unit, but I can find no way to adjust Geometry Type in either DNRGPS, or the GPS unit. Have no idea if this a "bug" in DNRGPS or my lack of knowledge, but would appreciate any assistance anyone can give.

Shapefiles are saved out with Z information now since most software can support it. Is there an option in Arcview to export the shapefile out to a 2D shapefile? I believe this article can get you what you need: http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=3&f=38&t=53393
