Feature request:: "read commands from standard input" mode.
It would be useful if heyu had a mode where it would stay around and read command lines from the standard input, so that it can be used as a back end without starting a new process that has to parse the config file every time. A good example is the "remote control" mode of rrdtool (http://www.mrtg.org/rrdtool/doc/rrdtool.en.html)

As I've already commented to the Heyu group, I think that refactoring Heyu command line in order to drop unnecessary SCRIPT and LAUNCHER directive processing is of much higher importance, beneficial not only to the application described. Once done, a simple shell script, like that proposed by Tom, should do the job of a lightweight standard input listener.
OTOH, extending Heyu to listen on a socket for commands seems more attractive to me than providing a mode that could be accessed from the local machine only, and would require one extra daemon per each application trying to make use of this mode. Am I missing something?
So, if there are no volunteers who can try to implement this standard input mode soon, let's get back to it once at least one of the two tasks mentioned above is completed.
Thanks,
Janusz
