SslTlsSupport should adhere to the IO message protocol to upper layers and support back-pressure
See the detailed discussion here: https://github.com/spray/spray/issues/544
As this is a rather big and possibly breaking change, we'd like to hear your thoughts as well.

So when you say breaking, is that a source-level breaking change? Even though akka-io is considered experimental, I don't think we want to break things at the source level between minor versions so this most likely shouldn't go into 2.2.x if it is.
If the changes are contained to SslTlsSupport then there could be a Spray version that behaves correctly if we don't want to introduce incompatibilities in Akka.

Trying to send to big messages using SslTlsSupport in Akka right now results in a CommandFailed.
Will document this as a known limitation see #3682

Hmm, there's another more severe limitation than not being able to send "big messages": CompoundWrites and WriteFiles are not handled at all by SslTlsSupport which means that data is put in plaintext on the wire. Maybe we need another ticket for that one and possibly add some code that prevents sending CompoundWrite and WriteFile through SslTlsSupport. Sorry for not noticing that this wasn't explicitly stated in this ticket.
