It is certainly possible, and I will make it easier by moving CI interaction things into the base classes.
I will however not port it myself, but when I've moved the CI specific stuff into the base classes it will be very easy to create both a standalone (provided CI's db is standalone) and Kohana version of the base classes (IR_base).

I'm currently using IR with Kohana. I just hack it to make usable on Kohana but most stuff doesn't work. Only find(), find_all() and new_record() work. Relation doesn't work at all. Interested to do it properly with this release. Care to elaborate a little bit where to start ? Does it work by implementing new base class for kohana ?
There's still a reference to CI in IgnitedQuery and ignitedrecord.php such as $CI->load->helper('inflector'); at line 327. Kohana controller does not use $load object anymore.
