How to use one image to mask another.

Maybe this feature needs instructions :-)
Use "mask->Get mask from image data", but you must tell TRI2 what to include in the mask and what to exclude, you do this by setting the min and max values on the image (do this in the histogram panel or by dragging the blue and yellow lines on the histogram below the image). The 'visible parts of the image (those between min and max) are in then included and the rest are masked out.
Once you have got the mask from the images data, you must paste it somewhere. Go to another image and choose mask->paste mask.
