LiveAPI

The LiveAPI Project, integrating Ableton Live with anything we can.

The current focus is on implementing the API via MIDI. There is a demo you can download and try out (requires MaxMSP) with instructions here and some documentation detailing the protocol.

You can read what is available in the API provided by Live itself right here.

Take a look at the Ableton Forum there are many threads about the LiveAPI.

I'm not sure this repository is maintained by anyone anymore. For people interested in the original Ableton LiveAPI that works using OSC and not MIDI. There is a development hub for both Windows and Mac OSX for Live 7 and 8 at:
