Gentoo ebuild
It would be really nice if someone with more Gentoo knowledge than me could get Tracks into portage.
I've spent hours installing it and trying to persuade it to talk consistently to MySQL, and being able to type 'emerge tracks' and have it Just Work certainly has its attractions :)

That would be nice, but I have no idea how to do it. Can anyone help?
I'm moving the milestone to 1.10, because I don't want it to hold up the next release.

Imho the best way would be to add a script/Makefile/Rakefile that allows to install tracks somwhere on the system, e.g. /usr/share/tracks and make it possible to run a tracks instance with only specifying a config file somehow. This would also make it easier to create an rpm or deb file. Basically, when there is either an ebuild, deb or rpm, it should be pretty easy to create the other file. When I have the time, I will try to make tracks run (it did not work the first time I tried) and report back. Maybe I can provide some patches then, but it will take some time. I will report back then.
It would make sense to also add a bug to Gentoo's bugzilla (https://bugs.gentoo.org). I agree with Till that it would be nice to have a simple install target as that would probably simplify things a bit. Gentoo also has the concept of webapps that should help to make installation easier, but I don't have any experience with it personally. I'm currently playing around with Tracks and liking it, and since I'm also a Gentoo Developer... But no promises. :-)

If Anonymous never gets around to it I might, given that I'm also a Gentoo developer.

It could be both depending on whether it would be part of the official distribution or just provided as part of tracks or someone's gentoo overlay. In any case I'm fine with leaving this ticket open for now.
