Scala IDE preferences broken in 2.8 branch
UPDATE: I believe I narrowed this problem down the the Scala 2.8 branches. When I updated to the main beta-2.0.0 branch (based on Scala 2.9,) all preference problems appear to go away.
When I go to the Scala compiler preferences and change the build manager from refined to sbt, I hit apply, then OK. Immediately afterward, I return to the preferences, they indicate the build manager is refined. This occurs whether I use the global preferences or the project-specific overridden preferences.
This happens for all Scala preferences other than the "enable logging of the Scala Plugin info" checkbox. The preference changes appear to be ignored. I tried a clean install of Eclipse Indigo with the same results. Also broken on the 9/21/11 Nightly Scala 2.8 build.
On Helios, on the Build manager tab, I get no option for SBT, only refined. Some preferences persist (deprecation, optimise [SIC]) some don't (g - debugging info level, P (Pass an option to a plugin), target. When you click apply, it never grays out like it should to indicate that preferences were successfully applied. Something is majorly screwed up.

Summary changed from Build manager preferences not persisting to Scala IDE preferences broken in 2.8 branch
The problem with the selection of sbt (or any dropbox option) and 2.8.2 is tracked in ticket #1000616.
For the rest, I cannot reproduce the problems. I tried with 2.8.2 20110921 (which is 20110920 as last night compilation failed) on Indigo (3.6.2) and Helios (3.7) on fresh workspaces. The checkbox and text preferences are working fine.
What is 'Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 1.4.0'? Eclipse never released a 1.4.0 version.
