ClassCastException when trying to compile Scala IDE using Scala IDE

In following the contributor guide, I have checked out the scala-ide source tree, and imported org.scala-ide.sdt.core into my Eclipse workspace, then launched an Eclipse Application from the Overview tab of the plugin.xml. Inside the launched app I then imported org.scala-ide.sdt.core again in an attempt to reproduce a bug I had previously observed. Instead of even getting to that bug, this happens:

It looks like for some reason the Java compiler is attempting to compile Scala files as Java files...

Yes, to be able to debug the Scala IDE using the Scala IDE you need to have Equinox Weaving enabled in the secondary Eclipse instance as well as the first. The easiest way to do that is to install the Equinox Weaving launcher from http://download.scala-ide.org and the launch the Scala IDE as an Eclipse application with Equinox weaving.

The developer documentation needs to be updated to mention this.
