Welcome to the Aeon Showmix Wiki Page!
Aeon Showmix - Current version: 2.1 (GIT-455) | version history
Aeon Showmix (further called showmix) is an abbreviation of the groundbreaking "Aeon Auriga" skin for xbmc created by Duncan Harris aka DJ_H. Although this already was a wonderful new way of displaying media content on a htpc machine, Andrew Blackburn aka andyblac decided to dive deeper into it, modding and extending it's possiblities to his own view and taste. As time goes by, more and more mods of auriga hit the xmbc-forums, and andy took those he found being useful and eye-candy and implemented them to his version. this became a feature-rich, good-looking collection of modifications to auriga we all today know as showmix.

Andy then created a thread for showmix on the xbmc forum to communicate with it's users and share his mod. As the process evolved (and still does), the need of some kind of manual that explains all those nifty new features and options has grown, so that every novice (and even experienced) user of showmix is able to use it's possibilities to the max. Matthew Brookner aka azido thought it might be a good idea to create a wiki page for showmix. Well, as we have this possibility here at assembla, here it is ;)
Note: This manual/wiki assumes you are already familiar with the usage of xbmc. that means you know how you can use xbmc, add media content to it, scrape for informations regarding your media, know the difference between file mode and library mode and where you can set options for the general usage of xbmc. If you just started to use xbmc at all, get used to it before you try to get known to this skin. the developers of xbmc already created an online manual to get you through this process, which can be found here. This should also be your very first place to look at when new features get officially implemented into xbmc, as i won't describe every single aspect of xbmc options here.
Note 2: Be aware of the fact that you might need the absolutely latest SVN-revision of xbmc for your desired platform in order to use all the features described here! The offlicial releases/builds of xbmc won't do the job.You will not be able to use all options unless you switch to an unofficial/unsupported SVN version of xbmc!
WARNING: xbmc 9.11 alpha 1 is out, but showmix 2.1 is NOT ready for it! read this post at xbmc.org forums for a statement regarding showmix and 9.11 alpha 1.
Now, this is a classic: people come into our forum thread, complaining about the skin being buggy because they only get a black background in home screen, even when they set up a backdrop..
THIS is an exact indication of the fact that they DID NOT READ THE ABOVE NOTE!. Save yourself from getting nailed down to this - read the wiki! ;)
The latest precompiled builds for windows machines can be found here.
For Linux (ubuntu) machines, you might want to try this resource.
Mac users should take a look here.
(NOTE: in order to use this skin, you need to have or seperately download the fonts used for showmix. They are NOT part of the package for legal purposes. You can download them here.)
Disclaimer: The informations in this manual/wiki are supplied "as is" and me, azido, cannot made responsible for any damage the consulting of this manual could do to your eyes, your brain, your xbmc installation or your dog's bone! In other words, it's likely to happen that what is written here can become outdated/obsolete since the evolving of an open source project is endless, and so it is for showmix. If you feel something described in here is not accurate, missing or invalid, you can always find me on the xbmc forums in andyblac's thread or drop me a pm here (you need to be registered to the xbmc forum to do so).
Note: As xbmc is a multi-language application, you surely use it in your own preferred language. As i am no linguist (cough), i'll keep it simple and even as showmix also contains strings translated to different languages, i will stick to english here. This should be the universal language we all understand. So if you dig deeper to options'n'stuff, either change your xbmc region to english to have the same labels you see here, or get your orientation on the given screenshots, as the options will appear in different languages but always on the same place, so you know what i'm talking about.
