Breakout is carefully designed to allow you to share some information, and keep some information private.
When you create a space, you set the Public access level as None, View, Edit, or All. This controls the permissions for people who are not team members. You also set the team access level.
If you set Public permissions to NONE, then your space will be invisible to people who are not team members. It will not appear in searches by non-team-members, and it will not appear in public lists, such as the New Spaces list on the home page.
If you set the Public permission to VIEW or EDIT, then your space can appear in search results for any user. It will also be eligible to appear on the home page in the New Spaces list and the Active Spaces list.
Access levels
VIEW access gives a user the ability to see the space.
EDIT access gives a user the ability to add and edit comments, and add and edit wiki pages.
ALL access gives a user the ability to add and remove team members, to use the Admin page and change the configuration of the space, to set relationships, and to delete the space.
Typical settings
A typical setting for a
publicly visible space is Public: View, Team: Edit. This is the default for a new space. Set public to "Edit" if you want to get comments from non-team members.
A typical setting for a
private space is Public: None, Team:Edit.
Using the Trusts relationship to work with groups
Breakout gives you the ability to grant access to a group, without inviting the entire group to the team. You do this by setting a "Trusts" relationship to a different space that contains the group as a team. When you do this, all of the members of the other team get team member access in your space.
If you are a space owner, you will see a "Related" tab on your space. Go to this tab to set and remove Trusts relationships. You can select from a list of recently viewed spaces in the right sidebar. If your target team is not in the list, open another window, search for the target space, and refresh.
You can use the Trusts relationship in many ways:
- Create Space with a team list that includes everyone in your organization. You can trust this space for company projects.
- Create a child space for a related topic or subtask. Set the Trusts relationship to include the team of the parent space. Soon, we will implement a "Breakout" function to create a child space and automatically set this relationship.
- Set up a new exclusive group or association, and invite all of your members. Ask them to use Breakout, and to trust this group space for their work with the association and other members.
- Make your project visible to an existing group. You may want to post your project for review by a management committee, or by an investor group. The Trusts relationship will help you do this.
Call me stupid, but after reading this
"...If you are a space owner, you will see a "Related" tab on your space. Go to this tab to set and remove Trusts relationships..."
I tried to use this feature for my somehow related spaces - and could do nothing... Or it's available only for non-free spaces?
