About the social grail project

The mission of the social grail project is to allow organizations to know who knows. This allows organizations to better leverage the knowledge of their members, work more efficiently with their know-how, and avoid duplicate work, poor decision, and inappropriate work assignments.

The code base is developed and donated by Volz Innovation GmbH. The code base and technology have been used by the Volz Innovation GmbH e.g. for a professional service called INNORAISE (focus on a semantic community), to build various community portals and for internal knowledge management.

The following presentation captures the essence of the product now open-sourced under the name Social Grail (pkna. Innoraise):

Our motivation

People and their knowledge have become the most valuable assets for organizations. But many organizations manage these assets poorly and experience low productivity with their most costly employees: the knowledge workers. According to research firms IDC and Delphi Group, knowledge workers spend up to 25% of their day searching for information. Much information stays locked in the head of the employees – or in their private documents – because it’s “too much work” to publish where colleagues can find it.

Often the answers sought are already present. Somewhere in the organization and – if one is lucky – somewhere in some document. Wouldn’t it be much easier to just reach out and ask a competent colleague who has this answer or can provide guidance ?

To know who knows is a challenge in most organizations, who pay big for not knowing who knows in terms of duplicate work, poor decisions and in-appropriate assignments.

Your solution

Social Grail enables people to know who knows. We take a people-centric view on information and provide links to people that are knowledgeable about your question at hand. For this purpose we aggregate content produced and consumed by people and intelligently assess the knowledge of a person. You can find out who knows about your topic of interest, and start to interact, collaborate, and follow the activities of your contacts. innoraise is fun to use too, as one can easily follow what’s currently going on in your community.

We help organizations to better leverage the knowledge of their members and work more efficiently when challenged with important questions about their business such as ongoing developments, competitor moves, product news, or supplier updates. All members of the organization can share their expertise and easily pick up conversations with each other.

Social Grail fosters collaboration and information sharing in the organization and helps to save time and money by efficiently allocating knowledge, expertise, and experience. Our solution can help web communities, large enterprises, associations, government organizations, as well as distributed
organizations.
