Welcome to OpenRPG. You have made a fine selection in your choice of Virtual Game Tables (VGTs) with OpenRPG. The software is free, open source, and has a great plugin feature for users who want to develop their own functionality. OpenRPG's life span is cresting 10 years soon and the software keeps getting better. We hope you enjoy using OpenRPG, and we think you have made the right decision with it as your VGT.
What is OpenRPG?
OpenRPG is a Virtual Game Table (VGT) that allows users to connect remotely and play table top games together. While OpenRPG is predominately used for Role-Playing Games currently, the software has a lot of room for other table top games including, war games, board games, dice games, collectible card games, and any other game that can be played on a table.
OpenRPG's software acts as either a Server or a Client. Users who use their software as a server allow other users to connect, create rooms, and share their computer which now acts as a conduit for others to connect too. Users who use their software as a client can connect to other servers and travel the various rooms to play many different games.
Why OpenRPG?
OpenRPG is considered one of the best VGTs available today. OpenRPG is a free software, but that is not the only reason to use OpenRPG. OpenRPG is also a complete virtual game table package. If you are a table top gamer then OpenRPG is the right decision for you because it is not specific to any system, nor does it neglect any system. OpenRPG's software allows you to play any game you want, that's right, any game.
OpenRPG is multi platform. OpenRPG has been known to run smoothly on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux OSs. Users don't need to be held down by their choice of operating system when it comes to OpenRPG./
If you are a Game Developer and you want a digital initiative, OpenRPG has done most of the coding for you. OpenRPG's software provides developers with a Chat, a Network, a Table, a Set of Dice, and all of these features can be recaptured in any plugin you right. OpenRPG is a one stop arena for all your gaming needs.
What is in the Manual?
In the manual we will cover the basics of OpenRPG from installing to running the software as a client or even as a server. The manual will also look at some of the coding aspects of OpenRPG's Plugins, so you don't have to leave with a big question mark over your head about how to do what you want. The manual will describe how plugins are written and give basics for users to write their own plugins so they can create their own functionality.
This Manual is still being written as of July 6th, 2009. Please bear with us!
