Background - Introducing Assembla and the Assembla Managers Bundle
While other software developers were suffering through the talent crunch faced by localized software teams, or managing the risks and separations of outsourcing relationships, Assembla was working on the next step - building and managing unified global teams. Now, Assembla has packaged tools and agile techniques that were refined under the intense time and cost pressure of Web startups, and made them available to a much wider audience.
Assembla online tools make existing teams more agile and distributed while preserving control of IP. Recruiting and staffing features provide access to a pool of talent already using Assembla workspaces and working with agile methods.
Assembla's lines of business include free and commercial workspaces on Assembla.com, used by thousands of agile developers and team leads, and full-service consulting to fix stalled product release cycles, streamlines product strategy, build startup teams, and get products released. Today, Assembla has about 30,000 registered users and about 7,500 active weekly users. This number grows about 30% per month and has increased 3 times since August, and 20 times in a year.
This week Assembla is introducing its subscription-based Manager Package, making distributed teams accessible to anyone who hires and manages developers. Assembla will offer a 30 day free trial of its Manager Package with staffing, management and project portfolio tools. Managers will have the option of using the Assembla staffing contract or their own.
Assembla's Manager Package targets buyers that have not previously considered distributed teams. Assembla provides them with a source of best practices for tools and processes to manage their projects and staff.
What's New:
- Integration: Assembla offers a single online subscription that replaces capabilities that previously required a number of independent services, woven together with rare management experience. The Manager package includes the tools needed by a software team, processes for sourcing, hiring, paying new team members, and secure management of the IP.
- Accessibility: Assembla is offering the Managers Package with a 30 day free trial and a 60 day money back guarantee.
- Openness: Assembla fits an existing team. It handles the complete life cycle of the project, and is open to all team members and outsourcers, and supports recruiting outside of the Assembla staffing contract. The software is even open source.
- Expertise: The package includes 2 hours per month of phone and email advisory services from Assembla senior management. Customers avoid mistakes by drawing on extensive experience with the setup, management, and staffing of agile projects.
Demonstration Instructions
We recommend that you learn about Assembla Manager Bundle in 2 steps:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1. Manage: Tools to Manage an Agile Team:
<!--[endif]-->Look at the tools for a live project. This link will take you to Assembla's existing Breakout Software Development workspace including access to the Assembla tools that we use to build this site. The data here is live and you can review our discussions and build process. Assembla has a couple of options for ticketing and source code management. In this case, we use the Trac ticketing system with Subversion.
You can also register and create your own workspaces on the production system.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2. Build: How to Build your Team:
<!--[endif]-->Look at a staffing scenario. This link will take you to our staging server and to a demonstration workspace called DemoSpace. We have populated a demonstration of the Staffing tool there, in a test database where you can add jobs (without showing them on our production system) and communicate with sample candidates and job agreements. You will need to log into the staging server with these credentials:
User name: reviewer
password: reviewer
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
Note: this is on our staging server so you may have to accept the certificate to proceed.
You can also register for the production release of the Manager bundle by starting with our landing page.
