The following notes should help with using Maavis in more complex deployment scenareos than those directly supported by the installer. For example institutional deployments or sophisticated network set ups.
Maavis is a Firefox add-on and Firefox can be deployed in a networked environment. Please see Firefox documentation
As a Firefox Extension, Maavis must be installed so that Firefox recognises it. The installer places the extension in the user’s Windows profile settings for Firefox and also creates a ‘Maavis’ Firefox profile to reduce conflicts with other Firefox use. Firefox supports other ways of installing extensions and details can be found on ???
The Maavis media may be located anywhere that can be reference by a file path, including on network drives that are mapped to a letter ( UNC names are not currently supported). The -mediafolder command line option allows the location to be specified. The default is in the user’s Document\MaavisMedia (or My Documents\MaavisMedia in XP).
Flexibility in sharing media folders between Windows accounts or Maavis users is possible by configuring the -mediafolderr option in conjunction with -login.
Possibilities include:
MediaFolder to point to common medialogin to enable Maavis Log. Setup Maavis User media folders including passwordsAlso see MaavisLogin
The Firefox profile used for Maavis has been configured to have the auto detect proxy option set to 4 which uses the WPAD protocol. If that does not work it may be necessary to find another solution. Perhaps a PAC file or manual setting (hint use the -nokiosk command line option to get at Firefox menus).
