Around a year ago it was concluded that the equipment display was not having the effect / usability as expected. It was debate if the feature should be removed from GHI or stay in. There were a few protests against removing it, so it stayed in its current shape.

Now that we are developing GHI v.2.0 we have several choices regarding the equipment display:
    a) Remove it
    b) Let it be as it is now
    c) Let it be, but support it with dynamic actions
    d) Try to improve the concept / design and get it better integrated.

If option d is chosen, then I suggest the following approach:
    1) Analyse what is not working in the equipment display and why it does not have a good 'feel' to its use.
    2) Consider how it can be improved. This can either be for GHI v.2.0 or by integrating it more with GHP.

Let me hear what you guys think about it.

My vote would be for either A or D.
Argument for A - As it is, it doesn't seem to do too much, and while it's an interesting idea, it's essentially a vestigial feature. The additional button on the character target UI adds to clutter, and if someone wants to assert that they're using/wearing item X, they'll usually just link it in their emotes. Removing it would allow us to focus our efforts on more important features.
Argument for D - Is is a really cool idea, and if we could make user-specified equipment models show up on the display, it would at least have some purpose. However, in order to make this a feature that people would use, I imagine that it would have to be developed to the point where GHI was its own MRP/TRP2-style RP addon, integrating the equipment display into a player profile, since it's the sort of information that people want to have access to from within a player's profile, not off to the side.

As such, unless you wish to actually turn Gryphonheart into a full-blown RP profile addon, I would vote to have it removed.

Sorry for the late reply, I have always been someone more to go for C/D

One reason its under used is cuase it was never quite finished and never quite documented. I think it can be improved, either intergrating it as a tab in the player menu (Like the tabs off to the side of the spell book, not the bottom ones but the ones that split things like General,Survival,Marks(speaking as hunter here)) that way its not cluttering the bottom of the player window (as i know MRP takes up a spot there currently)

Why i think it should be kept is some people like to make weapons or armor type items that may equip a actual item, lets say I have 'Vine entwined staff' that equips my lok'delar staff.

This could open up something Akin to item linking, Link a real item to a GHI item (possiblly display a short quip in the real items tooltip to that fact).

Also one feature could be the ability to 'equip' a GHI item as a right click action.
It can also show 'fake items' that may show up in MRP that you made into a GHI item, such as some vines wrapped around the arm with the on click of emoting something.

I realize this is all about feasibility for the addon so whatever works out in the end, but i think with a bit more fleshing out and visablity to it it may work out.

It is some good ideas you propose Aurora. I am thinking that we could actually make it easier to use by changing the 3D model of yourself in the Character frame (the blizzard one) with ours with icons on top of it. This could make it easier to equip the items etc.

The issue would then 'just' be to find a good way for you to see what other players got equipped.

Well we had the button on the player frame..somehow make a button for when they have equipment or make it more 'user/noob friendly'

How about that we show in the unit tooltip if the unit got any items in their equipment display.

    E.g.

    ____________
    Pilus
    Level 85 Huntard
    <Vanguard>

    GHI v.1.99.2
    4 GHI Items Equiped <Ctrl+E to show>
    _____________

When the user then presses ctrl+E while the tooltip is shown, they will get the equipment display of that unit shown.
That keybinding should of cause be customizeable.

    that may work

I had an additional idea on the matter:
GHI Items following real items equipped, so when the followed items get put in e.g. head slot (the real blizzard head slot), then the GHI item gets equiped in the cooresponding equipment display head slot.

This can also be linked to a transmorphed item, so it will follow depending what RP gear you change to.

The only way I could see the equipment display used is by hooking it to the default character frame. It will be a more natural method of accessing your gear and of seeing other people's gear when you inspect them.

Unless you can access the communications of RP profile addons and send an equipment list that tags onto their profile data.

Milestone changed from GHI v.1.99.2 to -none-
A mockup should be created for the new looks for this.
After the mockup is accepted, the corresponding tickets should be created.
