About this project

At the moment, the Animation Domination project is supposed to provide easy way to develop Joomla! based websites for tv-series fan sites all around the world. It specifically targets those communities, who (except form basic content management) need to collaborate on content creation, especially subtitles.

While the basic content management, like posting news, is left to the Joomla! core, episode database management and subtitles management are handled by the KTKIS component. This component is also aiming to ease collaboration while creating subtitles for new episodes of your tv-series of choice.

This project aims to provide Joomla! components and plugins, that would merge the best of WCM and Collab software, which would then allow anybody to create easily manageable fansite.

Origins of this project

Animation Domination started as simple one-man project to create a website for a Family Guy fan community in the Czech Republic,  where editors could easily cooperate while creating subtitles for tv-series episodes. There was an early version called Konspirační Titulkově Kreativní Informační Systém or shortly KTKIS, meaning Conspirational Information System for Creation of Subtitles.

But soon I would realize, that creating a back-end system would be worthless, when it could not be properly connected to the public front-end website.

And so began the creation of this "single package" system, which should include not only standard Web Content Management features but also support for Collaboration.

After a year of development, almost zero visible progress was made. The was much theoretical knowledge gained but not much actual working code was being made. The project suffered from several big mistakes. First of all, the project creator still thought, that he could single handedly build a WCM and Collab platform. But what totally killed the project, was the other mistake, of building the system from top to bottom. That way, while a lot of code was being written, no actual functionality could be seen. Because of that, morale was low and after a while, development came to a full stop.

Then came the bachelor thesis of the project creator, whose main topic was simply said selecting a suitable WCM platform for a fansite. During the thesis, it became obvious, that for a non-profit fan-based website, it is incredibly difficult to create custom CMS. Hence decision was made to build the fansite using opensource content management system and to create all the needed functionality, not available in the core system, as

How to take part in this project:

At the moment, the project is in a difficult position and is being refreshed. Therefore it is not recommended to join the project at this time.

This will change in the future. Probably by mid 2010 so if you are really interested in this project, come back then to see if we are looking for help from the community.
