Meeting 1: 2008-09-01
- Is the walking GPS really probable? Unofficially scratched that idea out.
- Compass application does not work on the emulator
- Discussed the research done for text-to-speech and voice recognition
- Reviewed Shane's opinion of having new capabilities in a phone for people that are visually impaired
- Researched about Android voice command capibilites
- Introduced a new idea for the project: Conversion of an already sent text message into a mp3, which is played by the phone. Using the text-to-speech.
- Using text-to-speech: Currently Android does not support text-to-speech. However there is an alternative called FreeTTS, which is written in Java and developers have tried importing that code into Android. There were several errors, but should be fixed now? (not to sure) FreeTTS would be a good substitute for the time being or something else should be tried.
- Important question about FreeTTS: how big is it, will it fit on a phone, and how good is the performance?
- Second alternative: Instead of having the already sent text on the phone, why not have the text be converted into a mp3 and be received just like a voice mail?
What needs to be accomplished by next week:
- Find out exactly why Shane wants to use text messaging
- What about sending text messages? Could it be done by typing or is there a need for voice recognition?
- What are we exactly going to be doing?
Gary Meeting: 2008-08-29

Meeting 1: 2008-08-25
- Everyone installed the Android SDK
- Successfully added all group members in this wiki group
- Compiled a list of team rules
- Created a Contacts wiki page
- Created a help page for SVN and Subclipse
What should be accomplished by next week:
- Each person should have played around with an application from Android (peferably different ones)
- Professor and clients should have been given username and passwords to access this wiki and view information about this group
- A clear (and specific) idea should be formed about what applications will be needed and what the overall structure of the probject will be like.
