I can program in ruby on rails; i have been involved with teams that work in an agile fashion, especially pair programming, short iterations, and test-driven development. My strength is that I can produce well-tested, well-thought-out code, at the cost of sometimes taking extra time. My long-term goal is to write good quality code at speeds matching the very fastest developers.
I am proficient in using jquery for client-side scripting, and prototype for ajax purposes. i am trying to get better in both these technologies. I prefer backend development over front-end, and want to focus on that in the long run, but have sufficient html and css experience to get by. I am also reasonably well-acquainted with the ubuntu operating system, and use vim or gedit as editors of choice for development.
I am also well-acquainted with the rails models framework, am aware of the need to write queries that execute fast, and have been involved with an iteration that ended when a query (in the Joomla framework) was reduced to taking about 200 ms from initially taking about 5 seconds.
Apart from rails, I have worked in the Drupal Content Management System for about 6 months. It is a delightful framework, good enough for most sites that do not have very high number of custom needs. But i suspect it is on the slower side for sites that have lots of dynamic content and high volume traffic.
